Food for Thought: Dr. Schaub

Thank you to Dr. Schaub for doing this interview with Equal Opportunities for Students. She is the head of the Education and Public Policy program at Penn State, and she did a great interview for Food for Thought.

Her interview is here.

Title I is a very important program that many students and parents aren’t aware of. Resources have been specifically dedicated for students who are struggling or come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Many school districts have also adopted programs like the Head-Start program, which gives children from poor socio-economic backgrounds the chance to have a full or partial day preschool education. This gets the children more used to the structure of school, which leads to these children performing significantly better in early elementary school than the other children. While these gains tend to level out during the middle elementary school years, this can largely be attributed to these students transitioning from the Head-Start program to schools that significantly lack funding. How can we make sure all students get the education they need? Why is it important to have programs like Head-Start? How can we make it clear programs like Head-Start are important for the development of students?
