Food for Thought: Mr. Apicella

We appreciate Mr. Apicella taking the time to schedule an interview with Equal Opportunities for Students. As a Title IX coordinator, he knows a lot of information valuable for Food for Thought.

His interview is here.

Mr. Apicella is the Title IX coordinator for Penn State University Park. He is in charge of overseeing all Title IX complaints across all of Penn State’s campuses. The Title IX office is a very important resource many sexual assault survivors don’t know about. There are many resources for survivors of sexual assault aren’t aware of. Spreading awareness about resources for survivors of sexual assault is very important. Another important point he made is that institutions like the Title IX office on a campus level, and the Office for Civil Rights on a federal level, are very important. It’s crucial both for universities to look at themselves, and for outside forces to look at the universities, to make sure all the laws are being followed, and that students are being properly protected. Why do you think it’s important to keep title IX offices, and the Office for Civil Rights?
