Liz Lopez, a student at Claremont Graduate University, is a semi-finalist of the 2023 Heumann-Armstrong Award.

More About Liz:

In Fall 2023, Liz will be a first year doctoral scholar at Claremont Graduate University where she will pursue a PhD in Education to further address issues of access and equity in U.S higher education. Her research focuses on the experiences of disabled, LGBTQ+ students in higher education and the advancement of intersectional disability advocacy in the academy. She is the former Assistant Director, UCLA LGBTQ Campus Resource Center where she was awarded the National Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Professionals’ Promising Professional Award and UCLA Staff Excellence Award. She was most recently awarded the California LGBT Foundation Chair’s Scholarship in collaboration with the CA Legislative LGBTQ Caucus to continue to advocate for disabled LGBTQ Californians. Liz was born and raised in South Central, Los Angeles (originally Gabrielino and Tongva land) and is a first-generation, neuroqueer, proud daughter of Mexican immigrants.
